Hi, As you can easily check on the Autodesk web site, the only difference is in the printing of ALL drawings which have been opened in the educational version. A typical item is TS 74945 as quoted below 'Issue You want to know if there is a way to tell the difference between a commercial and an educational copy of AutoCADĀ® software.
You are located in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa (EMEA). Solution In EMEA, the product CDs for the Commercial and Educational versions of AutoCAD software are exactly the same. The only difference between the versions is the authorization code that is received. Prior to authorization there is no indication on the computer as to which type of product has been installed. However, on the box in which the Educational version of the software CD was packaged, there is a sticker that indicates that the product is an Educational copy. Once the product has been authorized, the license type is indicated under Usage Type in the About AutoCAD dialog box. To see the About AutoCAD dialog box, on the Help menu, click About.'

What I have heard is that printing with a student version, you get watermarks in the top and bottom of the page's margin. Are there any other differences? Are there any functional differences?
And how is the compatibility with other AutoCad softwares, especially the full versions. Vana Be aware of what version you buy. There is no difference bewtween the student version and the commercial version other than the price and the water mark.
One thing about the student version that maybe most arent aware of is that.it cant be used for commercial use. AutoDesk has planted a virus of sorts in the file. If you xref, insert copy/paste anything into a commercial drawing from the student version it infects the commercial drawing and populates and vice versa.
If you open a student version drawing and xref a commercial version into it the student version it gets infected. If that xref makes a call to another xref it gets infected and so on. The virus is.all drawings will now plot with the water mark. You can very eaily infect thousands of drawings. There is a fix but you must call AutoDesk to get it. I was planning on purchasing the student version, and printing it on a commercial version, but if there would still be a watermark on the drawing, then there simply is not reason to try and save money.;P The watermark from student version will appear on ALL prints from any version, i.e., and you will have to go back to the reseller to have the watermarks deleted on any dwgs that were completed by any version other than the student version. In many cases, the reseller will only do this for a few dwgs and to get the watermarks removed for a lot of dwgs, the electronic forms of the infected dwgs will have to be submitted to autodesk for which they will charge. Also it will open a can of worms when reported by a firm such as Arch/MEP. Must be very careful. I always tell my staff that when dealing with contractors (no offense to them) it just seems they do it the most (and not intentionally) but not understanding the ramifications.
It should be well advertised. I don't know that it is. And on the student version they should give an implied warning also during install and probably everytime you start a drawing. Bob 'Gehenna' wrote in message news:[email protected].

Fortunately, we have never had to deal with this situation. Autodesk is preventing unauthorized use of their software by adding a 'virus' to their educational software. I have no problem with that.
But what about protecting the legal users from getting their drawings infected by files received from others? Why isn't there a pop-up warning that appears when someone attempts to insert or xref an educational drawing into their drawing? The innocent user would be able to STOP the process and protect their drawing files from being infected.

In other words, any key I touch on my keyboard to do something in AutoCAD will cause it to shutdown. How do you repair it through the control panel? Thank youSK Control PanelAutocad and you will see two buttons - one for change. Pick change and have your CD ready. If that doesn't work, uninstall autocad and re-install. Many users have had to do this.
I doubt that anyone here can diagnose your problem. You need to get local support that can take a look at your system.
